Deux jours au lieu d'un très long

L'excursion Delhi-Agra en une journée dure quatorze heures, dont sept en voiture. Répartie sur deux jours avec une nuit à Agra, les mêmes sites cessent d'être un marathon, et vous obtenez le Taj au lever du soleil, ce que l'excursion d'une journée ne peut offrir.

Jour un : Delhi

Qutub Minar, commencé en 1193, le plus haut minaret en brique du monde, avec le pilier de fer dans sa cour, debout depuis 1 600 ans sans avoir presque rouillé.

Le tombeau de Humayun, construit dans les années 1560 par la veuve de l'empereur, le premier grand tombeau-jardin moghol d'Inde, et le modèle direct du Taj soixante ans plus tard. Même jardin en quatre parties, même double dôme, bien moins de monde.

India Gate et le trajet le long du Rajpath devant le Rashtrapati Bhavan, 340 pièces sous un dôme que Lutyens a emprunté à un stupa bouddhiste.

Le temple du Lotus, maison d'adoration bahá'íe de 1986, neuf côtés, vingt-sept pétales de marbre, silencieux à l'intérieur, et fermé le lundi.

Déjeuner dans un bon restaurant, puis trajet vers Agra sur l'autoroute, environ trois heures et demie. Nuit à Agra.

Jour deux : Agra

Le Taj Mahal à l'ouverture des portes, une demi-heure avant le lever du soleil, quand le marbre passe du gris au rose puis au blanc froid. Votre guide explique la calligraphie dimensionnée pour se lire également depuis le sol, les fleurs de pietra dura composées de dizaines de pierres incrustées, les minarets inclinés vers l'extérieur, et la seule asymétrie de tout le bâtiment.

Puis le fort d'Agra, la ville de grès rouge d'Akbar de 1565, les palais de marbre de Shah Jahan à l'intérieur, et le Musamman Burj où Aurangzeb a retenu son père prisonnier huit ans à portée de vue du Taj.

Retour à Delhi dans l'après-midi.
