La plupart des visiteurs traitent Delhi comme l'aéroport par lequel ils arrivent en route vers Agra. Elle abrite trois sites du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO qui lui sont propres, huit siècles de capitales successives, et une culture culinaire à laquelle le reste du nord de l'Inde emprunte. Cet itinéraire lui donne une journée entière avant de descendre vers le sud.
Premier jour, Delhi
Le Qutub Minar, minaret de 72 mètres commencé en 1192, et le pilier de fer à côté qui tient en plein air depuis seize siècles sans rouiller. La tombe de Humayun, le tombeau-jardin qui a été le prototype direct du Taj Mahal, bâti par un architecte persan pour la veuve d'un empereur moghol. Le Vieux Delhi pour le fort Rouge et la Jama Masjid, et les ruelles de Chandni Chowk. Puis l'India Gate et les avenues coloniales du Delhi de Lutyens.
Deuxième jour, Agra
Départ tôt par la Yamuna Expressway. Le Taj Mahal avec votre guide, puis le fort d'Agra, où Shah Jahan a passé ses huit dernières années emprisonné par son fils à la vue du tombeau qu'il avait fait bâtir. Retour à Delhi en soirée.
Voir la tombe de Humayun la veille du Taj est le bon ordre. La filiation est évidente quand on s'est tenu dans les deux.

Le Taj est fermé le vendredi. Les sites de Delhi sont ouverts : un départ le vendredi fonctionne donc si Agra tombe le deuxième jour.
