The third monument is the one worth the extra hour.
Most Delhi day trips do the Taj and the Fort. Itimad-ud-Daulah, the Baby Taj, is what gets cut, and it is the building that explains the other two.
Nur Jahan built it for her father between 1622 and 1628, two decades before the Taj Mahal. It is the first Mughal building faced entirely in white marble, and the first to use pietra dura inlay at scale. Nearly everything the Taj is celebrated for was worked out here first, at a size where you can stand close enough to see how it was done. It is also small, shaded and usually almost empty, which after the Taj is a relief in itself.

The Taj is closed on Fridays. The Fort and the Baby Taj stay open, so a Friday version still gives you two of three.

The Baby Taj sits across the Yamuna from the other two, so it slots in first or last depending on the light rather than distance.
