The train down, and an afternoon with rescued elephants.
Two things make this different from the standard Agra day trip. The travel is by express train, which halves the journey and removes Delhi traffic from the equation entirely. And the afternoon goes to an elephant conservation centre rather than a marble showroom.
The elephants
The centre rehabilitates animals rescued from the riding trade, from circuses and from street begging. Many arrived with foot damage or spinal injuries from decades of carrying people. Nobody rides them here. You watch them walk, feed and bathe, and the keepers explain where each one came from.
How the day runs
Pickup in Delhi for the morning train from New Delhi station. Confirmed tickets both ways — New Delhi to Agra, Agra back to New Delhi. A car and guide meet the train at Agra.
The Taj Mahal in the morning with a guide, then the drive out to the conservation centre, and the return train. About twelve hours.

Worth knowing
The Taj is closed on Fridays. The sanctuary is open, so a Friday version still works with Agra Fort in place of the Taj.
Train seats are tied to your date and booked in advance. This is the least flexible part of the day — confirm before arranging anything around it.
Carry photo ID; Indian Railways checks it on board.
Visitors are asked not to touch or feed the elephants outside supervised sessions. It is a rescue facility with veterinary protocols.
Wear closed shoes — the centre's ground is dust and gravel.
