Staying the night means seeing the Taj twice, in two different lights.
The same-day Agra trip spends six hours in a car for perhaps five hours of sightseeing. An overnight changes the arithmetic: the driving splits across two days, and you see the Taj in the evening and again at sunrise — which are genuinely different experiences of the same building.
Day one
Pickup from your hotel or the airport in New Delhi, then the Yamuna Expressway down to Agra. Agra Fort in the afternoon — the Diwan-i-Am, the Jahangir Palace, and the Musamman Burj where Shah Jahan was confined by his son with the Taj in sight. Then the Taj Mahal in the late light, when the marble goes warm and the crowd has thinned. Check in for the night.
Day two
Back at the Taj for sunrise. The gate opens about half an hour before dawn and the first batch has it nearly to themselves. After breakfast there is time for Itimad-ud-Daulah or Fatehpur Sikri depending on your option, then the drive back to Delhi.
