Detailed Itinerary

Early Morning Departure from Delhi

Your unforgettable journey begins in the quiet, pre-dawn hours of Delhi. At 2:45 AM, you’ll be picked up from your hotel anywhere in New Delhi or directly from the airport in a comfortable, air-conditioned car. This early start is designed to give you the best possible experience at the Taj Mahal, catching its majestic beauty at sunrise when the monument glows softly in the morning light. The drive to Agra takes approximately 3.5 hours via the smooth Yamuna Expressway, allowing you to relax and enjoy the changing scenery as you move from the bustling capital to the historic city of Agra.

Sunrise Visit to the Taj Mahal

Arriving in Agra just as the sun begins to rise, you will first visit the Taj Mahal, one of the world’s most iconic symbols of love and architectural brilliance. With your government-approved, experienced local guide, you’ll explore this UNESCO World Heritage site in detail. You’ll learn about the fascinating history of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, and discover intricate details of the white marble inlay work, calligraphy, and stunning architecture. The early morning visit means you avoid the crowds and witness the monument bathed in soft, golden light, creating an ethereal atmosphere perfect for photography and reflection.

Buffet Breakfast at DoubleTree Hilton

After your immersive Taj Mahal experience, you’ll be taken to the 5-star DoubleTree Hilton hotel or a similar luxury venue for a sumptuous buffet breakfast. Here, you can recharge with a variety of delicious dishes, including Indian and international cuisine, fresh fruits, and hot beverages. This elegant breakfast stop offers a comfortable and relaxing break before continuing your day of exploration. The hotel setting provides a welcome contrast to the morning’s cultural immersion and allows you to freshen up and prepare for the next part of your tour.

Exploring Agra Fort and Baby Taj

Post-breakfast, your guide will take you to Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Mughal architecture and the imperial history of India. This massive red sandstone fortress was once the seat of the Mughal empire and houses palaces, mosques, and audience halls within its sprawling walls. Your guide will share captivating stories of royal intrigue, warfare, and daily life in the Mughal court as you stroll through its impressive chambers and ramparts.

Next, you visit the lesser-known yet equally enchanting Baby Taj, officially called the Tomb of I’timād-ud-Daulah. Often regarded as a draft of the Taj Mahal, this smaller mausoleum showcases exquisite marble inlay work and delicate lattice screens. This stop enriches your understanding of Mughal funerary architecture and its evolution over time.

Optional Heritage Arts Experience and Return to Delhi

If you wish to deepen your cultural experience, your guide can introduce you to the local heritage arts of the Mughal era. This optional stop offers a chance to see traditional crafts such as marble inlay work, miniature painting, or textile arts, giving you a tangible connection to the region’s artistic traditions.

Your day concludes with a comfortable drive back to Delhi, leaving Agra around 3:30 PM. The return journey offers time to relax and reflect on the day’s extraordinary sights. You’ll arrive back in New Delhi by early evening, completing a full day of history, culture, and awe-inspiring beauty.

The all inclusive sunrise Taj Mahal tour was worth every early morning minute. We left Delhi at 3am and arrived at the Taj gates just before sunrise. Watching the first rays of sun hit the white marble was absolutley magical, the Taj seemed to glow pink then gold then white. Our guide was incredible, explaining the Islamic calligraphy and the mathematical precision of the layout. The all inclusive package meant everything was covered, entrance fees, guide, breakfast, lunch and the car. No hidden costs, no stress. Brilliant.

This sunrise tour is the definitive way to see the Taj Mahal. We had the monument almost to ourselves in the early morning light and the colours were unbelievable. Our guide was waiting at the gate with our tickets already sorted, so no queuing. After the Taj we visited Agra Fort and then had a delicious included lunch at a local restaurant. Being all inclusive made it so easy, we just had to show up and everything was taken care of. The drive back to Delhi was comfortable and we were home by 5pm.

Good all inclusive tour to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise. The early departure from Delhi at 3am was tough but seeing the Taj in the dawn light made it worthwhile. The guide was knowledgable and the included meals were decent. We also visited the Baby Taj and Agra Fort. Giving 4 stars because I felt we were a bit rushed at Agra Fort to make it back to Delhi on time. The all inclusive pricing was fair and it was nice not having to worry about extra costs. Would reccomend starting even earlier to have more time in Agra.

Seeing the Taj Mahal at sunrise was a bucket list moment and this all inclusive tour delivered it perfectly. The predawn drive from Delhi was actually quite peaceful. At the Taj we had about 2 hours which was plenty to explore every angle. Our guide pointed out details like how the pietra dura inlay work uses 28 different types of precious stones. The included breakfast and lunch were both good quality. Everything, from hotel pickup to drop off, was completley seamless. One of the best day trips I have done anywhere.

Booked this for my visiting friends from abroad and they were blown away. The sunrise at the Taj is something every visitor to India should experience. Our guide was fantastic, bringing the Mughal love story to life in such an engaging way. The all inclusive aspect was great, no haggling over prices for anything. Breakfast was at a nice restaurant and lunch was authentic Mughlai cuisine. The car was comfortable for the highway drive. My friends said this was the single best experience of their entire India trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

The all-inclusive sunrise Taj Mahal tour from Delhi covers every cost of the experience: hotel pickup and drop-off in Delhi, private air-conditioned vehicle (Delhi–Agra–Delhi), Ministry of Tourism-licensed guide, all Taj Mahal entry tickets (main complex + inner mausoleum, ₹1,500 combined for foreign nationals), Agra Fort entry tickets (₹650), overshoes for the marble platform, bottled water, and a sit-down lunch in Agra. There are no additional payments required at any monument gate, no hidden charges, and no cash management during the day. The price you pay at booking covers the complete experience from hotel departure to hotel return.
This tour achieves the sunrise experience despite the 3.5-hour drive by requiring an early 4:00–4:30 AM departure from Delhi. This allows arrival at the Taj Mahal gate for approximately 7:30–8:00 AM — past the absolute first opening but still in the morning's best light and before the main tourist wave arrives at 9–10 AM. For visitors who want the classic 'sunrise' Taj Mahal shot from Delhi in a single day without overnight accommodation, a 4 AM departure is the necessary trade-off. Alternatively, the tour can be split into an overnight: travel to Agra the evening before, stay overnight, and begin the sunrise visit from your Agra hotel at 5:00 AM — a dramatically better experience.
Yes — a Ministry of Tourism-licensed professional guide accompanies the group throughout the Agra visit. The guide provides complete historical and architectural commentary at the Taj Mahal (2–2.5 hours) and Agra Fort (1.5 hours). For the Delhi-to-Agra driving segments, the guide may travel separately to Agra and meet you there, or in some packages, rides in the vehicle and provides contextual information about the passing Yamuna plain landscape and Mughal history. The guide manages all ticketing, security navigation, and entry logistics at each monument.
Pickup from Delhi hotels is at 4:00–4:30 AM — earlier than a standard same-day tour to allow arrival at the Taj Mahal for the best morning light. The driver and guide coordinate exactly based on your hotel location (hotels in south Delhi are closest to the Yamuna Expressway entry). A 4:00 AM pickup from Connaught Place-area hotels typically arrives at the Taj Mahal by 7:30–8:00 AM. The early start is demanding but most travellers find the Taj Mahal at 8 AM (soft morning light, reduced crowds) far superior to 10–11 AM (harsh light, large crowds). Tea and snacks are provided in the vehicle for the early morning journey.
Yes — Agra Fort entry tickets and guided visit are included in the all-inclusive price. After the sunrise Taj Mahal visit (approximately 7:30–10:00 AM), the tour moves to Agra Fort (10:00–11:30 AM) for a 1.5-hour guided visit. Agra Fort contains the Musamman Burj — the octagonal tower from which Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb (1658–1666) and from which he could see the distant Taj Mahal across the Yamuna. This narrative connects the two monuments emotionally and historically. Entry tickets (₹650 for foreign nationals) are included in the all-inclusive price.
Yes — a sit-down lunch at a quality restaurant in Agra is included in the all-inclusive price. The meal takes place between approximately 12:00–1:00 PM after the Agra Fort visit and before the return drive to Delhi. The restaurant offers North Indian, Mughlai, and continental dishes with comprehensive vegetarian, vegan, Jain, halal, and allergen options. The all-inclusive pricing means you pay once at booking and do not need to manage cash or negotiate with restaurants during the day. Inform us of dietary requirements at booking so the restaurant is briefed in advance.
Approximately 2–2.5 hours inside the Taj Mahal complex (the same as any quality guided visit). This is sufficient for the complete guided tour: Great Gate, gardens, main terrace, mausoleum exterior, inner chamber visit, and photography at key viewpoints. The 'sunrise' designation refers to arriving in the morning light (as early as possible from Delhi) rather than literally at the moment of sunrise — arriving at the Taj Mahal at 7:30–8:00 AM from Delhi still provides excellent morning light and pre-crowd conditions. The 2.5-hour guided visit is not reduced by the all-inclusive format.
Departure from Agra is at approximately 1:30–2:00 PM after lunch, with arrival back in Delhi at approximately 5:00–5:30 PM (3.5-hour return drive). This return timing is one of the advantages of the early departure — by leaving Agra in the early afternoon, you avoid Delhi's severe rush hour traffic (worst 6–9 PM) and arrive back before evening. Total day duration: approximately 13 hours (4:00 AM hotel departure to 5:30 PM hotel return). The early morning start and afternoon return make this the most time-efficient all-inclusive Taj Mahal day trip format from Delhi.
The all-inclusive sunrise tour from Delhi improves on standard same-day tours in several ways: (1) Earlier departure (4 AM vs 5:30–6 AM) — better morning Taj Mahal timing; (2) Complete all-inclusive pricing — no money management during the day; (3) Everything pre-arranged — tickets, vehicle, guide, lunch all confirmed before departure; (4) Full day return to Delhi (5 PM vs 7 PM) — earlier home/hotel arrival. For first-time India visitors who want the simplest, most stress-free approach to the Taj Mahal day trip from Delhi, the all-inclusive format removes every decision and every cash transaction from the day.
The all-inclusive price covers every element of the tour with zero additional costs on the day. Full breakdown: (1) Hotel pickup and drop-off — private air-conditioned vehicle collects you from any Delhi hotel (including Aerocity, Noida, and Gurgaon) and returns you door-to-door; (2) Vehicle — private AC sedan or SUV (Toyota Innova Crysta or equivalent) with professional driver for the full Delhi–Agra–Delhi journey (~400 km round trip), including all fuel, tolls (Yamuna Expressway ₹415 each way), and monument parking fees; (3) Guide — Ministry of Tourism-licensed professional guide for the complete Agra sightseeing day; (4) Taj Mahal tickets — main complex entry (₹1,300 foreign nationals) + inner mausoleum entry (₹200); (5) Agra Fort tickets — ₹650 for foreign nationals; (6) Taj Mahal overshoes — shoe covers for the marble platform (provided free); (7) Lunch — sit-down meal at a quality Agra restaurant (vegetarian, vegan, Jain, halal, and allergen options available); (8) Bottled water — cold mineral water in the vehicle throughout the day; (9) Morning refreshments — tea/coffee and light snacks for the early morning drive. Not included (optional): tips for guide and driver, personal shopping, and any optional add-on sites (Mehtab Bagh, Itmad-ud-Daula). Total included value for a foreign national exceeds ₹2,500 in tickets alone, plus vehicle, guide, meals, and refreshments. For full Taj Mahal entry details, see our Taj Mahal entry ticket page.
Yes, the Taj Mahal is closed every Friday for religious reasons. Please ensure your tour date for the Taj Mahal does not fall on a Friday.
Yes, foreign tourists must show their original passport or a high-quality digital photo at the entrance gates for security identification and monument entry.
Sunrise is the best time to visit the Taj Mahal. The gates open at 6:00 AM and the soft morning light creates the most stunning views. Arrive by 5:30 AM to beat the crowds and get the best photography conditions.
Yes, Delhi is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular tourist areas like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, and around major monuments. Booking a licensed local guide through AsiaByLocals adds an extra layer of safety and local knowledge.
The Delhi Metro is the fastest and most affordable way to travel between attractions. For tour experiences, our guides arrange private air-conditioned vehicles so you can cover Old Delhi and New Delhi comfortably in one day.
For popular sites like Qutub Minar, Humayun's Tomb, and Red Fort, advance tickets are recommended to skip long queues. When you book a guided tour through AsiaByLocals, entry tickets and skip-the-line access are typically included.
