From Delhi: Full-Day Jaipur Tour with Transfers & Tickets

The tickets are the part people forget

Amber Fort, City Palace and Jantar Mantar together are about ₹1,500 per foreign adult, and each has its own counter. The ticket-inclusive option here removes all three queues from a day that is already long.

There is also a Jaipur-start option, if you are already in the city.

The drive

Morning pickup in Delhi, then the highway south. The city thins out into open road fairly quickly and the drive is about four hours with a stop.

Amber Fort

The first stop, and the one that needs the most time. Begun in 1592 on a hilltop above Maota Lake, in pale sandstone and marble.

Walk the courtyards up the ridge: the Ganesh Pol gateway, the Sheesh Mahal with its mirrored ceiling, the Sukh Niwas where water ran through channels in the walls as a form of cooling four centuries before anyone had another way of doing it.

Jal Mahal

From the causeway. Photograph it and move on.

City Palace

Mughal and Rajput architecture around a sequence of courtyards, part of it still the residence of the former royal family — the flag over Chandra Mahal tells you whether they are in.

Jantar Mantar

Nineteen masonry astronomical instruments built by Jai Singh II, who founded the city and was an astronomer before he was anything else. UNESCO-listed, and the great sundial still keeps time to about two seconds.

Hawa Mahal

The five-storey honeycomb of 953 windows, best photographed from the street opposite in the morning.

Three options

A Jaipur-start version with car, driver and guide; the Delhi day with car and guide; or the Delhi day with tickets included as well.

Practical

Expect thirteen to fourteen hours door to door from Delhi. If you have a spare night, an overnight in Jaipur is a better trip; if not, this works.
