The drive

Private air-conditioned car down the NH-48, roughly four hours with a break.

In Jaipur

A licensed local guide joins you at the first stop. This matters: a Delhi driver can deliver you to Amber Fort's ramp but cannot tell you what the mirror room was for.

Amber Fort on its ridge above Maota Lake, begun 1592 — the Ganesh Pol gateway, the Sheesh Mahal with its mirrored ceiling, and the zenana courtyard laid out so that twelve queens' apartments existed without any of them overlooking another.
