Jaipur in a day from Delhi, which most people assume cannot be done.
It is about 270 km each way on a good expressway — roughly five hours of driving across the day. That is a lot, and it leaves enough for the two or three buildings that matter most, done properly rather than glimpsed.
What you see
Amer Fort, from 1592, above Maota Lake. The Sheesh Mahal mirror chamber, where thousands of convex mirror tiles multiply a single flame across the room, and the Ganesh Pol, the painted gateway into the private palaces.
City Palace, still partly lived in by the royal family — the Mubarak Mahal textile collection and the two sterling silver urns in the Diwan-i-Khas, which remain the largest single pieces of silver ever made, built so a maharaja could carry Ganges water to England in 1901.
Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar as time allows, and Jal Mahal on the lake as a view stop on the way out.
