Sightseeing and a transfer in the same day

If your next stop is Delhi, this saves you a day. You see Jaipur properly from eight in the morning, and instead of returning to your hotel the car carries on to Delhi in the evening.

There is also a local-only option without the transfer.

From your hotel in Jaipur.

08:30 — Amber Fort

The hilltop complex above Maota Lake, begun in 1592 by Raja Man Singh. Courtyards climbing the ridge, the painted Ganesh Pol gateway, the Sheesh Mahal with its ceiling of mirror fragments, and the Sukh Niwas cooled by water running in channels through the walls.

Early is the whole point — by half past ten the courtyards fill.

10:30 — Jal Mahal

A photo stop from the causeway. Four of its five storeys are underwater and there is no way in.

Midday — the old city

City Palace, Mughal and Rajput architecture around a sequence of courtyards, part of it still the residence of the former royal family.

Jantar Mantar, nineteen masonry astronomical instruments built by Jai Singh II, UNESCO-listed, with the 27-metre Samrat Yantra sundial still reading to within a couple of seconds.

Hawa Mahal, the five-storey lattice of 953 windows, built in 1799 as a screen for the zenana rather than as a palace.

Jaipur to Delhi is 270 km on the NH-48, four to five hours. You arrive in the evening.
