Ravana Falls: Easy, Crowded, Still Worth It
Ravana is the one everybody sees, because it is right on the Ella-Wellawaya road about 6 km from town and requires no walking at all. You park, you look, you are there.
That convenience is also its problem: tour vans, monkeys used to being fed, and stalls. Come early or late and it is a different place.
The cave associated with the Ramayana legend sits above the falls and is a real climb of a few hundred steps — most people who say they visited Ravana never went up.
Flow varies enormously. After rain it is genuinely powerful; in March and April it can be a trickle over rock. Nobody tells you this in advance, and it is the main reason people find the falls underwhelming.
Day tours that include it: Ella in a Day with the Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak and Ravana Falls, Ella Wonders with a spice garden, and Ella waterfalls with the bridge and Little Adam's Peak as a private day.
